2-Day STD Intensive Course | 2 days

OVERVIEW

This course is designed for medical practitioners who provide direct care to patients. Physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners are welcome to attend. This course is designed as a comprehensive overview of the optimal prevention, diagnosis and management of STDs in the outpatient setting, with an introduction to HIV care. Course content includes lectures and case studies, patient interview and examination techniques, risk reduction counseling, and partner notification activities. This training is intended for clinical providers.

The STD Intensive Course is held in New York City and is typically offered once a year. Please check the course calendar for specific dates.

TRAINING IN UPSTATE NEW YORK

Additional trainings are offered through the Center for Health and Behavioral Training (a Region II PTC satellite training center) in Rochester, New York. These trainings include two days of clinic practicum and one day of didactic. Rochester courses are generally offered every October/November each year. Clinic Practicum | 1 day

Overview

The clinic practicum is offered as a supplement to our STD Intensive Courses. A prerequisite for the clinic practicum is completion of either the STD Adolescent Course or STD Intensive Course. Eligible participants will have the opportunity to shadow a physician in one of the NYC Department of Health STD clinics located in New York City.

Please note: The practicum is scheduled at a time that is convenient for both you and our clinic staff, and is NOT scheduled for the date listed next to registration. The date simply means that registration is ongoing until then.  

The practicum is offered on a limited basis and applicants will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. HIV Clinical Issues Update | 0.125 days 2.5 credit hours

Overview

Please join us for an evening conference on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), Non-Occupational Prophylaxis (nPEP) and Early Antiretroviral Treatment: Exploring New Tools for HIV Prevention among Adults in New York City. The conference will be held from 5:30 to 8:30PM at Weill Cornell Medical College. Objectives:

  1. Describe the epidemiology of HIV in NYC.
  2. Describe non-occupational post-exposure prophylaxis (nPEP), its scientific rationale and guidance for prescribing and monitoring.
  3. Describe pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), its scientific rationale and guidance for prescribing and monitoring.
  4. Describe the individual and public health benefits of early antiretroviral therapy. 

Pre-requisite

This conference is intended for NYC clinical providers only. Physicians, nurses, advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians’ assistants, and midwives are invited to attend.

Overview

The Midwest AIDS Education and Training Center (MATEC) has partnered with the New York City STD HIV Prevention Training Center to offer a one-day course for clinical providers who provide STD care in Indiana. Course topics include prevention, diagnosis and management of STDs.

Agenda: Local STD/HIV experts will present the fundamentals of the following topics - Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment of Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Vaginitis, Human Papilloma Virus, Herpes Simplex Virus, Syphilis, and HIV, as well as practical instruction on Taking a Sexual History and Indiana STD Reporting.


Course includes Continental breakfast/lunch. 


Course Objectives

1. Describe current STD screening strategies, diagnostic algorithms, and CDC treatment recommendations.

2. Describe the public health aspects of STD care (e.g. optimal partner management; timely disease reporting).
